Physician Perceptions of mHealth

The MedData Group surveyed physicians between December, 2013 and March, 2014. According to MedData Group’s research:

  • “At least two thirds of physicians use some kind of mobile application in the performance of their jobs.”
  • 60% say they are “interested in technology the enables mobile EHR access.”
  • The top five applications physicians indicated that they would consider using in the next 12 months were:
    • Mobile EHR access
    • Point-of-care information on drugs
    • Medical devices and diagnosis
    • Patient portals
    • Secure texting
  • The most common reasons cited for using mobile applications were to reduce costs and to use time more efficiently
  • The most likely benefit cited was “access to patient records in real time”
  • However, physicians are skeptical and when asked to predict a timeline, most chose “more than five years away”
  • The reason for the skepticism seems to be cost and technological limitations.

These are some of the results of the 532 survey responses that were used to develop the attached report. 2014 Physician Perceptions of mHealth
