Summary:

Marsha George is an affiliate of the CCG Group and the Principal of Consulting by George, specializing in healthcare information technology recruiting and consulting.   Ms. George has spent the last 35 years in all aspects of the healthcare information technology industry. She was the President of a software company that provided niche systems for healthcare organizations. Some of her clients included University of California, San Francisco and University of British Columbia. She was also a national consulting manager for one of the international public accounting and consulting firms, PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Ms. George spent several years as the Chief Information Officer for an integrated healthcare system in the Pacific Northwest, PeaceHealth.  Most recently she was the Eastern Division CIO for Sutter Health.  During that time, she was active in several national organizations, including chairing the IT group purchasing activities for Premier.

She is an active member of Healthcare Information and Management System Society, presenting at conferences and writing articles.

Responsible for the Information Technology strategy and operations within the Eastern Division that consists of seventeen acute care hospitals, five long-term care centers, seventeen Home Health and hospice service centers, twenty two Occupational health services, 500 employed physicians, 900 aligned physicians, approximately 1500 affiliated physicians, Omni Healthcare HMO and the Sutter Institute for Medical Research.

 Sutter Health had a combination of centralized Support Services IT staff and affiliate IT staff.  Marsha had responsibility for staff, located in both the affiliates and outsourced to Support Services.  The Eastern Division IT annual operating and capital budget was $70M.

 Marsha was a member of the senior management team for the Eastern Division which was comprised of the Division President and the affiliate CEOs.  She also was the project executive for corporate-wide Y2K compliance of all IT and non-IT issues.

  • PeaceHealth, CIO and Vice President, I. S.

Responsible for Information Services strategy and operations across three states (Washington, Oregon and Alaska) and in six operating locations.  Line responsibility for 165 information services professionals that were organized in a corporate-wide department to provide services to all PeaceHealth operating units.  These units included five hospitals, two long-term care facilities, three home health agencies, 180 employed physicians in five integrated delivery regions and a two-state health plan with 140,000 covered lives.

Marsha was the overall project executive/leader for the selection and implementation of a complete electronic medical records systems, general financial systems, financial decision support, human resources, materials management, and OR management.  PeaceHealth was the development partner with IDX (PHAMIS) for clinical systems in the physician offices and went live with the beta clinic in June 1997.

Within Information Services, Marsha led a process redesign effort that targeted a 100% improvement in output with no increase in FTEs.

Marsha chaired the IT Purchasing Committee for Premier that was responsible for IT group contracting activities for the 1,800 member entities.
